Through cbm-supported projects in rural communities, he is one of more than 4,000 people who have benefited from initiatives funded by generous supporters and Aotearoa New Zealand’s International Development Cooperation Programme.
With support from the project, Thongphet received three goats and now also helps care for his sister’s herd – creating a sustainable source of income. As the herd has grown, nine goat kids have been born and five have already been sold. The income has helped provide food, healthcare, and education for his children, who are now thriving at school.
To support people with disabilities to participate in livelihoods, individual health and rehabilitation needs assessments were carried out across 20 villages. Based on these, people like Thongphet were supported to access essential services, including assistive devices, ear and eye care, and ongoing rehabilitation.
The project has also improved living conditions, with accessible toilets constructed for 121 households and hygiene and sanitation awareness reaching hundreds more.
Support from people like you also ensures Thongphet receives ongoing guidance from a district agricultural officer, along with training in animal care, financial management, and disability rights. This has enabled him to participate more fully in village life and decision-making.
