6-year-old Faith lives in rural Uganda with her parents, Esther and Samuel, who work as subsistence farmers. Her eyes are blinded by cloudy cataracts, but the daily struggle to earn enough for food leaves little for medical expenses.
“I was in shock … I cried,” said Esther. “It could have ended so badly. I only looked away for a moment. And Faith couldn’t see the danger as she was blind!”
Faith’s parents noticed the tell-tale white spots in her eyes, and as her sight worsened, daily life became harder.
Once a bright and active child who loved singing and playing with friends, she can now no longer attend school. Her teachers have told her to return only once her sight is restored.
