About Us

Where We Work

cbm works in the world's poorest places to help break the cycle of poverty and disability, and build more inclusive communities.

Reaching communities where
the need is greatest

cbm works alongside people with disabilities in some of the world’s poorest communities, where access to healthcare, education, and opportunity is often limited.

The challenges people face and the solutions that will last

Together with trusted local partners, and as part of a global federation, cbm works to help break the cycle of poverty and disability and build more inclusive communities.

Inclusion is always shaped by place. Geography, infrastructure, local services, climate, and community context all influence what support is needed – and how lasting change can happen.

That is why cbm works through trusted local partners who understand their communities and are best placed to deliver support that is relevant, accessible and sustainable.

Across every region, our focus is the same: to stand alongside people with disabilities, strengthen access to essential services, and help build communities where everyone can thrive.

Our work spans four key regions

Africa

Partnering with local organisations to improve access to eye health, surgery, healthcare, and disability-inclusive programmes in communities where poverty, preventable disease, and exclusion create significant barriers.

Together, we are helping people access treatment, rehabilitation, and opportunities to participate fully in family and community life.

Asia

Supporting eye health, disability inclusion, and community-based programmes across diverse settings, each shaped by its own systems, cultures, and challenges.

Working with trusted local partners helps ensure people with disabilities can access healthcare, education, livelihoods, and rehabilitation that responds to the needs of their communities.

Papua New Guinea

Working alongside local partners to strengthen eye and ear healthcare, physical rehabilitation, and disability-inclusive services in remote communities, where mountains, rivers and limited infrastructure often make access to essential care especially difficult.

Together, we are helping more people receive life-changing support closer to home.

The Pacific

Working through local partnerships to strengthen inclusion, eye health, and resilience across island nations, where distance, limited specialist services, and climate-related disasters can make access to support especially challenging.

Together, we are helping build stronger communities where people with disabilities are included and better prepared for the future.

What this work looks like in practice

Across these regions, cbm works alongside local partners to help people with disabilities overcome poverty and exclusion. Depending on local needs, this can include restoring sight, supporting surgery and rehabilitation, improving access to healthcare and education, responding to emergencies, and helping build more inclusive communities where everyone can participate and thrive.

By partnering with local organisations and communities, cbm’s work is shaped by local knowledge, lived experience, and the everyday realities people face.
