Stories > Steven’s sight restored, his future renewed
“How beautiful on the mountains are the feet of those who bring good news.” – Isaiah 52:7
But everything changed when his eyesight began to fade.
Over time, cataracts clouded both of Steven’s eyes until he became completely blind. With no access to medical care and little understanding of what was happening, he believed he had been cursed.
As his vision disappeared, so too did his sense of security and wellbeing. Confusion and fear began to take hold. Unable to work or provide for his family, the strain on the household grew. His children were forced to stop attending school to help at home.
The impact of blindness reached far beyond Steven’s sight. It affected his relationships, his mental health, and his place within his family and community. Eventually, he became isolated – separated from those he loved, and without hope for the future.
Everything changed when a cbm partner staff member visited his remote village and told him that his sight could be restored.
With the help of neighbours, Steven made the long journey to an eye clinic. There, he received cataract surgery.
For the first time in years, he could see again.
“I have been born into a new world,” Steven says.
With his sight restored, his strength and energy are returning. More importantly, he is reconnecting with his family. Back in his village, he was able to see two of his grandchildren for the very first time – a moment filled with joy and hope.
Steven is now rebuilding relationships that were lost and is determined to ensure his grandchildren have the opportunity to go to school and build a brighter future.
Your gift will help fund the cost of cataract surgery for adults so they can return to productive lives, and the extra costs of cataract surgery for children, including general anaesthetic, so they can hope for a better future.
It will also help fund other essential eye health services, including prescription glasses for children and adults whose sight has been damaged due to cataracts.
Thank you for your kind and caring heart.
