23-year-old Benifa is in her second year of full-time study, she lives in a student dorm at Goroka Hospital – far from her home in Tari – working hard toward a future of caring for others. Like many nursing students, her days are long and demanding. Over the past year, however, studying became increasingly difficult.

“I cannot see well,” Benifa explains. “When I wake up, it’s difficult to open my eyes. It’s hard to see the PowerPoint at nursing school. It makes my classes very uncomfortable.”

Frequent headaches followed, adding to the strain of her studies.

Benifa didn’t know what was causing the problem – only that her vision was affecting her ability to learn.

It was her sister who encouraged her to seek help. After receiving glasses herself through the cbm-funded eye clinic at Goroka Hospital, she urged Benifa to do the same.

Thanks to the faithful support of regular givers, the clinic was there – equipped, staffed, and ready to help students like Benifa when they needed care.
