Agasave’s newfound independence

Agasave delights in his new wheelchair in Papua New Guinea.

Because of you, 11-year-old Agasave from a small village near Goroka in Papua New Guinea is discovering freedom he has never known before.

Born with Cerebral Palsy, Agasave has spent much of his life on the ground – crawling to play with other children and relying on his grandfather for daily care. He lives with his mother, younger brother and sister, while his grandfather does what he can to support the family by selling produce at the local market.

A wheelchair once gave Agasave a glimpse of life beyond his village – trips to town, to church, and to the market. But when it broke down, those simple joys disappeared. Without it, he was often left at home when his grandfather needed to work.

A new wheelchair was far beyond what the family could afford.

But because of you, that changed.

When Agasave received his new wheelchair, his face lit up with joy.
“I’m so happy – it’s my new car!” he said, proudly learning to move and turn by himself without needing help.

Now, because of you, Agasave can once again go to town, visit the market, and be part of community life. He dreams of spinning around in town – and one day, even driving a real car.

For his grandfather, who has carried the responsibility of caring for Agasave for so long, the moment was overwhelming. With tears in his eyes, he simply said, “I wanted to buy a wheelchair for him… but I couldn’t. Now you have come. I am very happy.”

Because of you, a burden has been lifted.
Because of you, a child has gained independence.
Because of you, hope is on the move.
