When Samuel, from Papua New Guinea, fell from a tree as a young boy, his family had no idea how much it would change his life. His injured leg never healed properly, and he lost the ability to walk. Determined to stay independent, Samuel taught himself to move using his hands and his good leg – an incredible feat of strength and resilience.
For years, he got around this way, even building his own home and climbing banana palms. But travelling longer distances was difficult, and he’d always dreamed of having a wheelchair to help him reach further into town.
Thanks to generous supporters like you, Samuel – now in his 40s – has finally received that long-awaited gift. His new wheelchair, specially designed for the rough terrain around his home, has transformed his life.
“I love being up, off the ground,” he says with a smile. “Now I can see the world around me – not just people’s feet.”
