Our faith foundation

cbm is a Christian organisation, grounded in the belief that every person is created equal and deserves dignity, inclusion, and the opportunity to thrive.

Our faith inspires us to act with compassion, seek justice, and walk alongside people with disabilities and their communities. We work with people of all backgrounds and beliefs, united by a shared vision of a more inclusive world.

More than a century of impact

Since 1908, cbm has grown from one man’s faith-led response to exclusion into a global movement for disability inclusion.

Our heritage and mission shaping a more inclusive world today

cbm (known as the Christian Blind Mission) was founded by the German Pastor, Ernst Jakob Christoffel in Turkey in 1908. His pioneering work, establishing homes for blind children, orphans, and the physically disabled in the Middle East and Asia, was driven by his deep faith in God. Although two world wars threatened to destroy his work, he did not give up, continuing the work through illness and into old age.

Today cbm continues in his footsteps, as an international Christian development organisation, working to improve the quality of life of the world’s poorest persons with disabilities.
