Serving with Faith and Compassion

Michael, CBM Papua New Guinea's Project Coordinator

Michael Lulu, CBM Papua New Guinea’s Project Coordinator, is a committed follower of Christ whose life reflects a deep calling to serve people with disabilities.

Raised in the Christian faith, Michael has long carried a heart for those who are often overlooked and disadvantaged by disability. For more than twelve years, he has worked alongside CBM partners to strengthen ear and eye health services, walking closely with children, adults, and families, and advocating for dignity, inclusion, and hope.

With a background in Special Education, Michael’s ministry has been expressed powerfully through service to children. He has supported school screening programmes that help identify hearing and vision challenges early, enabling children with disabilities to learn, grow, and participate fully in their communities.

In recognition of his leadership and dedication, Michael received an Australian Award scholarship, completing a Master’s degree in International Community Development in Melbourne. The experience strengthened his ability to serve communities with both professional excellence and cultural sensitivity.

In 2020, Michael joined CBM Papua New Guinea as the country’s first coordinator, helping to lay strong foundations for the national programme. He brings experience from government, faith-based organisations, international NGOs, and disability services – always guided by his faith and deep respect for local community leadership.

Today, Michael coordinates CBM’s work with a strong focus on East New Britain Province. Through CBM-supported activities, people of all ages receive medical care and assistive devices that restore independence and confidence. Under his coordination, sight has been restored for people living with cataracts – especially women and mothers. Children and adults have received glasses to help them learn and work. Children with disabilities are being welcomed into schools and supported with mobility devices, opening doors to education and opportunity.

Michael’s life and work embody Christ’s call to serve with humility, compassion, and love – bringing light, hope, and practical support to communities across Papua New Guinea.
