Vision Excellence Awards

Congratulations to Dr Jambi Garap, the Ophthalmologist who conducts most of the cbm cataract outreach clinics in Papua New Guinea, for receiving a Vision Excellence Award through the International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness (IAPB) Vision 2020.

The IAPB announced just over 100 awardees for the Vision Excellence Awards which recognise outstanding contributions to advocacy, innovation, programme implementation, institution-building and disease control during the 20 years of VISION 2020. 2020 marked the end of the “VISION 2020: The Right to Sight” – a global initiative launched in 1999.

The VISION 2020: The Right to Sight global initiative sought to promote: “A world in which nobody is needlessly visually impaired, where those with unavoidable vision loss can achieve their full potential.”

Congratulations also to Dr Geoffrey Wabulembo (previous CBM Ophthalmologist in Papua New Guinea), Babar Quereshi (CBM Director of Inclusive Eye Health and Neglected Tropical Diseases) and Allen Foster (former CBM Director) also received Vision Excellence Awards.
